Fresno Pacific University

Fresno Pacific University is a Christian liberal arts university located in the southern part of California’s great Central Valley. The University is situated on a 42-acre campus in Fresno, California, between the high Sierra Nevada mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The campus is in the southeastern section of Fresno - a growing metropolitan community with a population of more than 400,000.

The university began as Pacific Bible Institute in 1944. After a transitional junior college phase, Fresno Pacific College received Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation in 1965, the same year in which the first bachelor of arts degrees were granted. A fully accredited graduate program in education was initiated in 1976, and in January 1997, the institution became Fresno Pacific University.

It is the policy of Fresno Pacific University not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, or sex in its admission policy, educational opportunities, or employment policies, in compliance with all applicable federal regulations.

Center for Professional Development
Independent Study Courses

Policy Statement – Online (3000 Series) Courses:

The Fresno Pacific School of Professional Studies offers independent study courses through its Center for Professional Development that are primarily designed for students who have baccalaureate degrees and appropriate teaching credentials. Center for Professional Development credits are graduate-level, professional development units that are not part of a degree program but instead are primarily used for professional advancement. Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in Center for Professional Development courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements.

Enrollment

TEC 3012: Web Searching has an open enrollment policy. Participants may enroll at any time and will have up to one year from the date of enrollment to complete the course.

Students may take nine (9) semester units of college credit concurrently, and not more than 15 semester units of college credit in a semester. A minimum of one week per unit has been set, by design, as a standard for all SPS independent study courses.

Should special circumstances arise making it impossible to complete the course within the one year enrollment period, students may apply, in writing, for an extension to the Associate Dean of the SPS Center for Professional Development. Otherwise a “No Credit” grade will be issued by the instructor for the course. A $20 fee must accompany any extension request.

Credit for Course Work

Students receive credit for courses in the semester that assignments are returned to the instructor, satisfactorily completed. Credit is not issued by date of enrollment. Semester dates for the School of Professional Studies are:

Spring Semester January 1 - May 31

Summer Semester June 1 - August 31

Fall Semester September 1 - December 31

The postmark date on assignments mailed to the instructor determines completion date.

Students should allow two weeks following completion of their course work to receive their official computerized grade report from Fresno Pacific University. An additional two weeks should be allowed from the date a transcript is requested before it is received.

Remember, a transcript should not be requested until an official grade report has been received from the University. If a transcript is ordered before the grade report is received, the course credit may not appear on that transcript.

Request for Letter Grade

If you wish to receive a letter grade instead of a credit/no credit grade, check the request for letter grade box when completing the three-part Registration Form which is to be returned to the instructor with the completed course assignments.

Returned assignments

If a student wishes any part of the assignment returned following grading, the student must include the appropriate size envelope, self-addressed, with sufficient postage for mailing.

Grade Dispute

Grade disputes must be made within one (1) year from the date grade report is issued.

Grade Reports

Official computerized Grade Reports are issued by Fresno Pacific University, not by the instructor. An official, computerized Grade Report will be sent to you by the university several weeks after you send your coursework to the instructor. The instructor’s Course Completion Verification is NOT the official FPU Grade Report.

Transcripts

1. Finish the course and be sure to return the completed 3-part registration form to the instructor.

2. Wait for the COMPUTERIZED GRADE REPORT to be mailed to you from Fresno Pacific University.

3. Send the transcript request form below directly to the Registrar’s Office. (For RUSH options, call 209-453-2268).

Reminders:

1. Send transcript requests directly to the Registrar’s Office, not the instructor or the School of Professional Studies Office. Transcript requests and fees not sent directly to the Registrar’s Office will be returned to you.

2. Total processing time from the end of a course to the actual receipt of a transcript may take up to 3-4 weeks (grading time, grade posting, mail time sending you a Fresno Pacific University computerized grade report, your transcript request receiving and processing, etc.). ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME!

3. Transcript requests are honored only when all financial obligations to FPU have been met. Transcripts from other institutions cannot be forwarded by FPU.

4. Should it be important for a particular course to appear on your transcript, send your request AFTER you receive the official FPU Grade Report for that course. DO NOT REQUEST A TRANSCRIPT UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE OFFICIAL, COMPUTERIZED GRADE REPORT DIRECTLY FROM FRESNO PACIFIC UNIVERSITY. To serve students most efficiently, transcripts are sent immediately upon request. The transcript record is not checked by the Registrar’s Office staff for certain courses before being sent; the assumption is that you have sent your request only after you have received your official, computerized Grade Report directly from Fresno Pacific University.
