Transforming Internet Explorer Favorites Into Webpages (PC versions 5 and 6 only)

Note: Internet Explorer versions 3 and 4 do not support this procedure. This feature alone makes downloading a newer version of Internet Explorer well worth the effort.

  1. Before you start the conversion process, check to see that you have created a "web" directory / folder on your hard disk.
  2. Open Internet Explorer.
  3. Click on the File menu.
  4. Select Import and Export.
  5. When the Wizard appears, click on Next.
  6. Click on Export Favorites from the dialog box that appears.
  7. Click on Next.
  8. Click on the folder you wish to export. If you click on the top Favorites folder all of your Favorites will be exported.
  9. Click on Next.
  10. Click in the radio button in front of Export to a File or Address.
  11. Click on Browse.
  12. Navigate to the "web" folder on your hard disk.
  13. Change the default Bookmarks file name to web1.htm (Note: you can use a different file name as long as it has all lowercase letters, is five letters or less and has the .htm suffix).
  14. Click on Save.
  15. Click on Next when the Wizard screen reappears.
  16. Click on Finish to exit the Wizard.
  17. A dialog box will appear informing you that the export process was successful.
  18. Navigate to the location where you saved the web1.htm file and open it. You should see your exported Favorites displayed as a webpage on your screen. Clicking on the links should take you to the associated webpage.
  19. You can add this webpage to your Favorites list just like any other webpage you might find on the web. You can even make it your Internet Explorer homepage.

That’s all there is to it… I have found favorites lists transformed into webpages to be very helpful. In fact, all of the link webpages that you have been using for this course started out as bookmarks/favorites lists that I created while I was researching and developing the course.
