Session 1:
Getting Acquainted
- Name, school, grade, previous web publishing experience
- Show and Tell - share existing webpages/websites
- Workshop expectations - what do you hope to learn?
Review of Basic Webpage Design Skills (using Netscape Composer)
- Formatting text
- Page color schemes
- Inserting graphics
- Creating hyperlinks to external webpages (absolute links)
- Creating the Title and Metatags
- Naming and saving the webpage
Webpage File Naming Conventions
- No spaces in file names (absolutely essential #1 problem)
- All lowercase letters (recommended)
- No special characters (recommended)
- Short file names (8X3 maximum / 5X3 recommended)
- Webpages all end in .htm or .html
- Graphics all end in .gif or .jpg (.bmp or .pict files won't work )
Setting Up File / Directory Structure
- Create a separate folder / directory on the hard drive or on a floppy disk for each website
- Save all webpage files to this folder / directory
- Save all graphics that will be linked to the webpages to this folder before inserting them in the webpage
Session 1 Project: Create a Class Website with a Single Webpage for Each Student in the Class
- Create the folder / directory that will contain all of the webpages
- Create the template for the student webpage
- Duplicate the template, renaming it for each student (File | Save As)
- Create the website index.htm page that links to each student webpage
