Web Publishing Safety Guidelines
- Check your district acceptable use policies
- Get parents' permission before publishing projects
- Do not use student's complete names
- Do not publish individual photographs with names of students
- No home addresses, phone numbers or personal e-mail addresses
Creating Your Own Web Graphics
- Using Paint
- Using Online Graphics Tools
- Using Image Composer (and similar graphics software)
Importing Text from Other Documents
- Copy and Paste
- Use the "Save as HTML" option (if available)
Setting Up a Multiple Webpage Website
- Create the root folder / directory
- Create the index webpage (index.htm or index.html)
- Create additional webpages (be sure to follow naming conventions!)
- Save the additional webpages into the same folder as index.htm
- Create a "navigation bar" linking all the webpages in the website using the "choose file" option to create "relative links"
- Copy and paste the "navigation bar" from the index webpage to the other webpages in the website
Session 2 Project: Set Up a Class Website with a Separate Multiple Page Website for Each Student in the Class.
- Create the class website folder / directory that will contain all the individual student websites
- Create the 'template" folder for the multiple page student website
- Include a link back to the class website homepage (../index.htm)
- Copy the template folder from the desktop back to the class website folder
- Rename the copied folder (from "copy of template") using the file name conventions you have established for your class website
- Continue copying the template folder until you have a separate folder for each student
- Create the class website index webpage
