Searching for Phrases

In the third pass through the search engines, you will force the search engine to look for specific phrases. Phrases convey a more specific meaning as a phrase than they do as separate words. Select several phrases from your "Analyzing Your Search Topic" page. Place quotation marks around each phrase and leave a space between phrases.

Use the cut and paste method to insure identical search strings from one search engine to the next. The search engine will search its database for webpages that contain the specific phrases you have entered. You are likely to see very different hits this time around. You will notice that the number of hits has become much smaller and the number of usable webpages has increased.

Record your observations in the digital logbook and continue adding bookmarks to your growing collection.
